Phase 1 (Idea and Concept)
Minding Mind is inspired by the calming and de-stressing effects of popping bubble wraps, squeezing a stress ball or even fidgeting with some random object at your disposal. Studies have shown that people felt calmer and more awake after they were done popping a sheet of bubble wrap than before they’d started.
These activities similar to fidgeting with objects help relax muscle tension in the body and stimulate your tired mind. Similarly, the game mechanics here are identical to these activities and help in calming your anxious mind anytime and anywhere without the need for any fidgeting object.
This game can be played anywhere when you wish to take a quick break. It will help you de-stress while waiting for your order in the restaurant or while in the backseat on a road trip or even during your commute on the bus/train.
To accomplish these objectives of calming and de-stressing the mind, there are three major concepts of engaging with different senses at different levels.
Visual > Colours
Audio > Sounds
Cognitive > Puzzle - problem-solving
Moreover, there are different background tracks being played throughout the game apart from the sound effects while playing different games. These background tracks are Binaural Beats. Binaural beats are a perception of sound created by your brain. If you listen to two tones, each at a different frequency and each in a different ear, your brain creates an additional tone you can hear. This third tone is called a binaural beat. You hear it at the frequency difference between the two tones. Research shows that hearing a low-frequency sound via binaural beats can trigger a slowdown in brain waves hence, reducing stress and anxiety.
